SELECTMEN’S MEETING

TOWN OF ACTON

February 24, 2011

SALUTE TO THE FLAG

Lorraine Yeaton gave a brief eulogy of John Moore’s life and service to the Town of Acton.

 A MOMENT OF SILENCE IN MEMORY OF JOHN MOORE WAS OBSERVED.

1.  APPROVAL OF AGENDA:  Approved as written.

2.  APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF LAST MEETING: Approved as written.

3. OLD BUSINESS: None.

4. NEW BUSINESS:

(1) PERSONNEL POLICY: On a motion by Ted, a newly revised policy was signed. Thanks was extended to the policy committee for their time and effort in rewriting this policy.

(2)    QUIT CLAIM DEEDS: On a motion by Ted, Quit Claim deeds were signed for two properties repurchased by the owners after foreclosure for non-payment of taxes.

(3)    ACTON AMBULANCE: Jack Brogan asked the Selectmen to consider an article for the warrant that would allow the Acton Ambulance to become part of the Fire Department. Selectmen said they will schedule some public hearings to get feedback from the Town.

(4)    APPOINTMENT OF CHARLES HEFFERON TO WARRANT AND FINANCE COMMITTEE: On a motion by Ted, Charles Hefferon was appointed to the Warrant and Finance Committee to finish John Moore’s term.

5. OTHER BUSINESS: Bob Anderson spoke of the need for the Ambulance  to be taken over by the Town.

Karl Hodgdon stated that because of the way the Ambulance Associated organization  was formulated, it will take a poll of all of the membership to dissolve the association.

Rey Lopez asked how nearly finished is the reval team. Larissa said they are better than 95% complete in property inspections. Rey said they have never returned his call. Larissa said she would check on this with O’Donnell.

 

6. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Bill reported that Bob Mann has been hired as Superintendent for the Transfer Station. Roger Lewis will be returning to his job on March 2. Rey Lopez questioned if Bob was qualified to make decisions about oil spills and other hazardous materials. It was noted that in his previous position he had been required to deal with such emergencies.  Also, he will be receiving more training and certification on the job..

Ted announced there are still opening for volunteers on Forestry Committee, Zoning Board of Appeals, Cable Committee. An ad will be placed in the paper tomorrow to hire a APAT Studio Manager.
