SELECTMEN’S MEETING

TOWN OF ACTON

January 26, 2012

7:00 pm

SALUTE TO THE FLAG

1. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Approved as written.

2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF LAST MEETING: Approved as written.

3. OLD BUSINESS: None.

4. NEW BUSINESS:


1. TOM CASHIN WITH PROPOSED ARTICLE: Tom said the Planning Board wants to include a Storm Management Ordinance on the warrant. They will be meeting on February 2 to vote on it. Ted said if the proposed ordinance is ready, the selectmen will include it on the warrant.


2. CINDY HART REQUESTING FORMATION OF A CANAL BRIDGE COMMITTEE: Cindy asked the Board to consider forming a Great East Lake Canal Bridge Committee. Repair or replacement is needed but because of the historical value and structure it needs much research. She asked that David Cote and Mary Waterhouse be included for their knowledge of grant writing, and Jack Kelly and Tom Gore for the historical aspect. Ted said anyone interested should contact the selectmen’s secretary.


3. APPOINTMENT POLICY: Larissa read the policy and made a motion to adopt and sign the policy. It was so voted


4. RESIGNATION OF FIRE CHIEF WALSH and APPOINTMENT OF INTERIM CHIEF: Chief Walsh’s resignation was accepted with many, many regrets. Peter Smith (the younger Peter) was appointed to act as Interim Chief until June 30, 2012 The Board will advertise the position.

 

5. ABATEMENTS: Arthur Fox Cemetery, $1.35; Richard Chevalier, $151.61: On a motion by Larissa, the abatements were approved and signed.


6. RESIGNATION OF BARBARA SECKAR FROM THE CABLE COMMITTEE: Barbara’s resignation was accepted with regret. Ted expressed his appreciation for all she has done.


OTHER BUSINESS: None

ANNOUNCEMENTS; Still need volunteers for Cable Committee, and 1 alternate members of Board of Assessment Review


Larissa reported she will be organizing a Tumble Time program at the Acton Fitness Center for children ages 2-5 years beginning February 1, from 9:30 to 10:30 am. There will be an organized playtime for 30 minutes, then children will go to the Acton Public Library for stories and crafts

Larrisa also announced that today is Bill’s birthday. Happy Birthday Bill Shields!
