SELECTMEN’S MEETING

TOWN OF ACTON

SALUTE TO THE FLAG

1. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Approved as written.

2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF LAST MEETING: Approved as written.

3. OLD BUSINESS: None

4. NEW BUSINESS:

a. Award lawn care bids: The bids were opened at the last meeting but awarding of the bid

was postponed to allow the bidders to obtain Predetermination of Independent Contractor Status from the State of Maine allowing exemption from worker’s comp. One bidder, Deveau Property Maintenance, had to withdraw his bid for personal reasons. On a motion by Bill, the bid was awarded to Tall Grass Lawn Care, Robin Ham, who was the low bidder at $3,900.

b. BCN Phone contract: On a motion by Bill, a contract renewal was signed for telephone service with BCN Telecom. Ted noted that research had shown their rates to be the lowest plus they offered a rebate of over $500.

5. OTHER BUSINESS:

Jack Kelly said that at the Stormwater Ordinace public hearing, the group he had referenced was the Maine Volunteer Lake Monitoring Program.

Tom Cashin said he wished to apologize for being abrupt with Dennis and Jack at the hearing. What he should have said was that education is a better way to do things than regulations.

Paul Poyant asked if there will be a candidate’s night. Ted said that is not a Selectmen’s function, this is usually done by the political party leaders. 

6. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Volunteers needed for 1 member and 1 Alternate member of Saco River Corridor Commission, 2 Alternate Warrant and Finance Committee members.

Ed announced that nomination papers were turned in by Ted Kryzak for Selectman, Jeannette Bearse for School Committee and Road Commissioner Scott Mooney is being opposed by Davis Winchell Jr. Election is June 11 at the Town Hall from 8am to 8pm. Town Meeting at the school on June 15 beginning at 9am.
