TOWN OF ACTON

SELECTMEN'S MEETING

OCTOBER 9, 2007

1.      PUBLIC FORUM: Chip said he had been asked about moving the Oct. 18 hearing to a bigger building. Nancy said this is a Planning Board decision, not selectman. Chip said he does not see the need to change the venue.

John asked if selectmen had received an answer from MMA about Town having to abide by Zoning. Jim said he knew that a question had been sent but did not know if an answer was received.

Davey Winchell reported that there is a dip on Sanborn Road where a new culvert has been installed that needs to be fixed before winter. His truck hits bottom and it is a hazard. Nancy said she will contact the Road Commissioner.

David Cote reported Brian Beeler will be calling a meeting with Selectmen, Finance Committee, and School Committee relative to new state requirements for voting school budget. The total amount appropriated at Town meeting must be voted on by a referendum after Town Meeting. It may mean that the date for Town Meeting should be scheduled earlier.

2.      APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Approved as written.

3.      APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF LAST MEETING: Approved as written.

4.      WARRANT: Approved and signed.

5.      OLD BUSINESS

(A) ASSESSING: No action.

      (B) CABLE CONTRACT: Meeting scheduled Friday at 10 am.

      6.      NEW BUSINESS

      (A) PUBLIC HEARING FOR GENERAL ASSISTANCE OVERALL MAXIMUMS: A public      hearing was opened and Nancy explained some of the          changes. Appendices have been posted on        the bulletin board for over a week. No comments from the public, the hearing was closed. On          a motion by Jim the GA Ordinance Appendices were adopted and signed.

      (B) HANNON REQUESTS PERMISSION TO VIDEOTAPE HEARING ON OCTOBER           

 18:   Nancy said this is a public meeting and taping is allowed.

      (C) KRYZAK RE:PRIVATE SCHOOL: Ted reported that he has been researching Private Schools relative to Acton, and Acton would qualify. One change would be the State approves    $6,500 for private tuition and Acton per student budget is $8,500. Ted suggested that a committee should be appointed to study the feasibility of becoming a private school. David confirmed that the committee already appointed is going to look into it. Percy Lowell noted that he is on that committee as representative of the Finance Committee.

   7.      ADJOURNMENT: Adjourned at 7:45 pm.
