TOWN OF ACTON

SALUTE TO THE FLAG

1.  APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Approved as written.

2.  APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF LAST MEETING:  Approved as written.

3. OLD BUSINESS: None

4. NEW BUSINESS:

a. Sign  Tax Commitment: Ted gave a rundown on the revenues and expenses and noted the reason for an increase is because the County has changed their fiscal year resulting in an 18 month County Tax payment. Both municipal and school appropriations have decreased. The resulting tax rate established is $11.10 per $1,000 valuation. On a motion by Bill the commitment was signed.

b. Make Recommendation on Article for Special Town Meeting: Firemen David Langley and Bill Cataneyse explained that Fire Truck Engine #1 has been out of service with pump problems. Cost of repair is estimated $21,915. Repair will take 6 or 7 weeks. The new truck is not due to arrive until November or December. The warrant article asks for up to $25,000 to be appropriated from the undesignated fund balance. On a motion by Bill, Selectmen will recommend approval of the article as written.

c. Sign Pole Permits: On a motion by Bill, it was voted to sign pole permits for CMP.

d. Discuss Boston Post Cane: The Acton-Shapleigh Historical Society has volunteered to take over the ceremony for the Boston Post Cane. Selectmen have purchased a replica of the original cane to be awarded to the oldest Acton resident. Presentation will be announced in the near future.

5. OTHER BUSINESS:  Paul Poyant announced that the Warrant and Finance Committee will meet September 9 at to make a recommendation for the warrant article.
