SELECTMEN’S MEETING

 

TOWN OF ACTON

 

March 27, 2014

 

 

 

SALUTE TO THE FLAG

 

 

1.         APPROVAL OF AGENDA:  Approved as written.

2.         APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF LAST MEETING:  Approved as written.

 

3.         OLD BUSINESS:

 

a. Award Bid To Buy and Install Transfer Station Compactor: Ted re-read the bids that were received last meeting. On a motion by Bill, it was voted to accept the bid of Atlantic Recycling  for the purchase of a new compactor for $24,985.

 

b. Award Bid For Hauling Transfer Station Waste:  On a motion by Bill it was voted to accept the bid from Troiano Waste Service of $210 a haul.

 

c. School Warrant / Vote Update: It was noted that the School Warrant was not yet ready to be signed. A Special Selectmen’s Meeting will be scheduled for 04/03/2014 for this purpose at .

 

4.         NEW BUSINESS:

 

a. Sign Transfer Tax Form: The State now requires a Transfer Tax Form when Municipal Quit Claim Deeds are recorded. On a motion by Bill the form was signed.

 

b. Receipt of A packet from Mark Healey petitioning for his road to be accepted was received.

 

c. Lawn Care Bid: Ed read the bid specs for lawn care which will be posted next week.

 

d. Legal Bid: Bill read the specs for obtaining legal council for the town. Invitations to bid will be sent out this week.

e. Update on Zero Value Properties: Some inquiries had been made as to why there were properties listed with -0-value. Research resulted in the following report: 17  Common Lots within subdivisions. Value is assessed to subdivision lots; 11 Unbuildable lots assessed with other lot of same owner; 4 roads or rights-of-way;  4 lots in Tree Growth assessed with mother lot; 1 Lot in Farmland/Orchard assessed with mother lot;  5 Lots combined  by assessor; 7 Cemeteries; 1 Island shown on tax map is in Newfield; 1 Old water rights location on Square Pond owned by Sanford; 4 lots newly created – not yet assessed.

 

5.         OTHER BUSINESS:  Ted read letters of appreciation which the Selectmen signed for 10 boys from Kennebunk High School who took on the project of building a shed for salted sand for the public to use.

 

 

 

6.         ANNOUNCEMENTS: Ted read the results of the Special Town meeting.

Ed announced the death of Joan Nass’s father, who was the holder of the Boston Post Cane. Also, he expressed sympathy for the two Boston Firefighters who were just lost in a fire.
