TOWN OF ACTON

 

SELECTMEN'S MEETING

 

JANUARY 8, 2008

 

 

PUBLIC FORUM:  Nancy announced that the Road Advisory Committee will be meeting at this time in the CEO waiting room. Present were Jack Kelly, Bernard Yeaton, Scott Mooney, Dick Weymouth, Chuck Hefferon, Cindy Hart, Percy Lowell. Also in attendance was Scott Dunham.

 

 

Dennis noted that here are 6 members of the Warrant and Finance Committee and not all members are attending meetings. He believes there is a policy about how many unexcused absences are allowed before removal from the committee. Nancy said they will need to look at the Warrant and Finance Committee Ordinance.

 

 

1.      APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Approved as written.

 

 

2.      APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF LAST MEETING: Approved as written.

3.      WARRANT: Approved and signed.

 

 

4.      OLD BUSINESS

 

      a. ASSESSING: Rod will be in the office on January 23 from 9 am to noon.

 

      b. CABLE CONTRACT: Mike reported that Metrocast  called and will reply to proposal by January 21.

 

 

5.   NEW BUSINESS:

 

      (A) APPOINT MEMBER TO MARY GRANT COMMITTEE: On a motion by Mike, Eric Gallagher was appointed to replace his wife, Yoli, as a member of the Mary Grant Committee.

 

 

      Nancy said she has talked with Road Commissioner Scott Mooney and he will continue to plow the Town's portion of Buzzell Road.

 

 

      Nancy also reported that the selectmen intend to hold weekly staff meetings which will be posted. The public is welcome to attend but may not participate in discussions.

 

 

      Dick Neal reported there is a gap under the front door of the Town Hall. Chip said he would look at it.

 

 

      Chip reported on the meeting with the Commissioner of Education at the Town of Sanford. She said Acton cannot be a donut hole because we do not have an enrollment of 1200, which is required. She said the legislature is working on some changes to the law which should be available   in two weeks. No other town wants us as long as we have a contract for high school with Sanford.    We may be able to form a school union with another town.
