SELECTMEN’S MEETING

TOWN OF ACTON

SALUTE TO THE FLAG

1.         APPROVAL OF AGENDA:  

Bill Shields made a motion to approve the agenda as presented seconded as Ed Walsh.  All in favor; motion carried.

2.         APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF LAST MEETING:  

Bill Shields made a motion to approve the December 11, 2014 minutes as presented, seconded as Ed Walsh.  All in favor; motion carried.

3.         OLD BUSINESS:

4.         NEW BUSINESS:

            a.         Registrar Appointment:  On a motion by Bill Shields and second by Ed Walsh, a unanimous vote by the Board, Jennifer Roux was appointed as Voter Registrar for a term ending December 31, 2016.

            b.         Town Meeting Dates have been set for June 9, 2015 for the election and June 13, 2015 for the Town Meeting.  Polls will be open on June 9 from 8am-8pm at the Acton Town Hall.  Town Meeting will begin at 9am at the Acton School.

            c.         Warrant / Finance Opening- Due to a resignation, there is a vacancy for an Alternate member to the Warrant and Finance Committee with the term expiring June 30, 2015.  Any interested party should notify the Town Clerk no later than January 21, 2015.  Chairman Kryzak also noted that the Board of Selectmen will be meeting with the School Committee next Tuesday to discuss their budget and would like to encourage any interested person to attend said meeting.

          d.         Warrant / Finance Appointment- On a motion by Bill Shields and second by Ed Walsh, a  unanimous vote by the Board, Robert T. Gore was appointed as a Regular Warrant and Finance Committee Member with the term expiring June 30, 2015.

          e.         Updated FOIA Policy- Bill Shields read the proposed amended policy and on a motion by Bill Shields and second by Ed Walsh, a unanimous vote by the Board; the policy was adopted

          f.          Electricity Contract- The Town’s current contract for electricity supply with Electricity Maine expires this month, the renewal rate at$.135Kwh was nearly a 100% increase.  After seeking  out price quotes, the best price found for a 3 year contract is with Direct Energy as brokered by Integrity Energy at a rate of$ .0955Kwh.  The average rate being offered nationwide is $.134Kwh.  On a motion by Bill Shields and second by Ed Walsh, a unanimous vote of the Board, the contract with Direct Energy was approved and signed.

         

5.         ANNOUCEMENTS:   Ed Walsh wanted to update the people on the Little Red Schoolhouse situation.  They had met with the property owner and the Code Enforcement Officer to see if they could find an alternative for her rather than moving the house back upon rebuild.  They considered   different scenarios and also consulted with an attorney and found that there wasn’t anything they  could come up with to allow the building to be rebuilt where it currently sits.
